Turkey Soup

Roasted turkey carcass
Turkey meat
Onion
Carrots
Leek
Wavy egg noodles or bow tie noodles
Salt & Pepper

Boil the turkey corpse until it falls off the bone. Strain broth. Discard turkey remains. Refrigerate and skim off the grease. Bring to boil and add onions and carrots. Cook pasta and rinse. When carrots are mostly soft add in turkey, leek and cooked noodles. S&P to taste. A little bit of holiday heaven!

Still Waiting

I am still waiting to see the doc for an 8AM appointment. This is the only industry I know that can get away with this kind of tardiness. Why didn't I go to medical school? Oh because I don't like other people's vomit. That's right. Although for the money maybe I could get used to it.

Just Waiting

Flu over Christmas and a cold over New Year's. Woo hoo! I'm sitting in the doc's office waiting to get some of my blood sucked out. They just tried to take me into the wrong doctor. Confidence is low!

Waiting for Shots (again)

I'm so sick of miserable visits to the doctor. I hope he is a trooper like last time!

Funny Hat

We had to borrow a hat when we went to the park. It was a funny little thing from Scandinavia. The things we do to humiliate our kids... It's one of my favorite things about parenting.

Kiss the Baby

Tristan makes out with himself in the mirror.

Feeding Time at the Zoo

Selah feeds Tristan a snack of Goldfish while we wait for real food.

Just Tired of It

Nuf said right there.

Stopped for Lunch

Julius is coloring a "snow banana". He got a real eye opening surprise when we went into the women's restroom. Eek! Let's say Applebee's needs better placement of their diaper changing station.

Stopping for a Drink

Tristan looks over the fine selection of beverages at the gas station.

Ready to Go!

We're ready to go on our trip to Dallas. We're going to see friends and visit the Dallas World Aquarium, just me and the boys. Poor Dad has to stay home and work. Let's roll!

Sir Tristan Hillary

Tristan takes every opportunity to climb. Here he is standing on top of a caterpillar in order to climb over the arm of the chair. I ran over to get him down about the time he flung himself against the back of the chair which began tipping over backward. I lurched forward to "save" him and felt my neck crack in about three places. I'm sure I've given myself whiplash. He, of course, is fine.

Stop Taking Pictures

Julius says, "How many times do I have to tell you -- stop taking pictures of me!"

I say, "Why don't you like me taking your picture?"

His retort, "Well sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Hey let me see that picture. Cool!"

Nice Turkey

Tristan pets the Thanksgiving turkey. Nice turkey!

Doggone Dirty Shame

Gas pumps made of gold, my pockets full of lint.

Balloon-o-Gram

Julius and I are sending a letter by air mail. To whom it may concern... If you find this letter, write us back!

Can't Quite Fly

Tristan can't fly with even that many balloons in his pants!

Balloons and Stars

For Tristan's birthday we decorated the room with almost 50 helium balloons and 100 feet of foil stars on fishing line. So pretty! I wish the living room looked like this every day of the year!

Happy Birthday Tristan

Today is Tristan's 1st birthday. This is the dinosaur mountain cake.

Eating a Peach

Tristan eats his first peach like a big boy. Today is his birthday. Tomorrow is his first birthday party!

Dancing with a Skeleton

Julius is getting down with his bad self and Mr. Skeleton.

Sweeping Up

Tristan is helping mom by sweeping up a rubber chameleon. Important work!

Have Blanket, Will Travel

Tristan drags around a mondo huge comforter. I have no idea what his plan is.

It's a Smokey Day in the Neighborhood

As his first public act, our new neighbor is burning big piles of stuff in his yard. It's a gorgeous, textbook gorgeous, fall day. Perfect day for having all the windows open and enjoying the last pleasant weather before winter hits. I'm shaking my metaphorical fist in anger.

Happy Meal Helmet

The handles of a Happy Meal box are good for more than hanging onto.

Blue Gum

Tristan discovered the joys of special ink gum designed specifically to turn little boys' mouths blue for as long as possible.

Happy Halloween!

I dressed up as "Wendy"...you know, the one from the burger joint. We had a chili cook-off tonight to raise money for the Van Buren County Special School.

My Anniversary Gift

My anniversary gift was cool artsy fartsy stuff. I hate the term "artsy fartsy" and can't believe I even used it.

Rob's Anniversary Gift

Nothing like the gift of mindless violence for a man's anniversary!

Fortune for the Upcoming Marital Year

Here are our anniversary fortunes...

Rob's is "A single kind word can keep one warm for years." And keep you out of the pop-up camper lemme tell ya, honey.

Mine is "A faithful friend is a strong defense." And good company for when your husband is in the pop-up camper.

Horsing Around at P.F. Chang's

WE LOVE PF CHANGS!

Driving Miss Wendy

Rob and I are celebrating our anniversary a few days early because SOMEBODY whose name I won't mention planned a hunting trip for the week of our real anniversay. Supposedly by accident, but... Hmm. Anyway, so we're on our way to eat a nice lunch at P.F Chang's (an hour and a half away) and the reason I'm sitting in the back seat is because an earlier passenger spilled half a gallon of rubbing alcohol on the passenger seat and I was getting high from the fumes. So happy damn anniversary from the back seat of my car.

School Spirit

This is anti-drug week at J's school. The kids are dressing special every day with an anti-drug themes like Hawaiian shirts for "Lei off drugs" or inside out clothes for "drugs turn me inside out" -- all corny but good stuff. Tomorrow is "team up against drugs" so they wear black and gold (team colors) and attend a pep rally. I couldn't find a team shirt at the store so I had to make one myself. This looks black and white but it's actually black and gold. I surprised myself!

Tired of Pictures

Julius is tired of getting his picture taken. It's been a long day.

Snoozing

I think we've found what works!

Old People and Technology

Dad tries to figure out how to send pictures with his cell phone.

They Call Him Mello Yello

We're trying Clonadine instead of Versed this time to see if we have better success.

Just Waiting

Our totally awesome anesthesia doc gave Julius two stuffed toys. He has terrible mask anxiety and she is working hard to make this a great experience for him.

Big Tall Drink

My mom got Tristan hooked on drinking from this big cup we got at the fair. He loves it only there's nothing in it. He hasn't mastered Straw Suckage 101. Here he is walking around with an empty cup. I was trying to take his picture and he keeps running from me because he thinks I'm trying to take his cup. Silly Wabbit!

My Spoon!

It's my spoon and you can't have it!

Look at My Food Grandma!

Tristan shows Grandma the chewed up food in his mouth because she laughs. Gross little baby!

Charicatures

Amelia the artist made a picture of the boys.

Feeding the Camel

Rob the brave feeds the camel.

On the Way

We're on the way for our adventure to the state fair. Yee haw. Julius is showing Tristan how his baby toy works. He's a good big brother!

Making Barb Famous

My mail art buddy Barb thinks my phone blog is only about babies. Bah! I'll show her!

Bye Mommy

I'm trying to let Tristan be more autonomous and adventurous. It's hard to have an overprotective control freak for a mother. Here he is about to head out to the screened porch to go stab himself with a screwdriver, or swallow wood splinters, or crack his head open on the corner of something, or trip and bust his lip. I'm just sure of it.

Slippers in Context

Here is what they look like in relation to the rest of his body.

New Slippers

When I saw these slippers I just had to get them for Julius. They make his feet look 12 times bigger than they are. So cute!
