Bye Mommy

I'm trying to let Tristan be more autonomous and adventurous. It's hard to have an overprotective control freak for a mother. Here he is about to head out to the screened porch to go stab himself with a screwdriver, or swallow wood splinters, or crack his head open on the corner of something, or trip and bust his lip. I'm just sure of it.

I've been afraid to ask ... did he survive the outing?

He actually did. He and Julius do this thing now where they place "chase" and he does mostly fine as long as nobody gets within 6 inches of him. If you get in his body space that seems to be when bad things happen.

Bad things also happen when Mommy forgets that babies do not understand the laws of physics. Yesterday we left daycare and I thought just for fun I'd let him walk to the car unaided by me not realizing it's slightly down hill. He took off running because usually what happens is when he gets turned loose he knows someone is going to grab him and take him back into the house. So now his tactic is the minute the door opens he runs as fast as he can for freedom because he knows it won't last. (Poor thing is probably going to grow up really scarred emotionally in some way. But then again, don't we all?) So, he takes off running and gains momentum going down hill, top half going faster than bottom half and falls and scrapes his chin on the rough pavement. Not a bad scrape, but still... bad mommy!!

Wendy, have I mentioned lately just how much I love you? It's a good thing my brother married you - otherwise I might have had to marry you myself just to get in the family!
