Pirate Chest, Phase One

This is phase one of building the pirate chest. This is built from a diaper box and extra cardboard and lots of duct tape. The padlock is built from card board, wadded newspaper and more duct tape. Gotta love that. I haven't engineered the hasp yet, but I have to pause to go build the cake.

Wow, that looks great! Isn't duct tape an amazing thing? I saw a dress made of it once!

I didn't get a picture of it finished. Basically I made another strap with duct tape and attached the lock to it. We did a three phase treasure hunt:

1) walk the plank clue
2) seize a pirate vessel (ring toss on an inflatable pirate ship)
3) defeat the enemy pirate vessel (pinata) and collect their loot and a treasure map!

The treasure map was marked with a red x that showed where the treasure chest was. And the chest was full of cool mini chests with candy and favors.

They made me re-hide the chest several times so they could go find it again.
